From 'Homelamb' to 'Boneland': 7 'Homeland' Parodies That Nailed It

Few shows in recent history have sparked so much parody as Showtime's hit thriller

Parody can be a sign of great success – and for a show like Showtime's "Homeland," this effect can be felt multiplied many times over considering the number of spoof versions that have popped up in their four-season history.

From "Sesame Street: Homelamb" to Hustler's "This Ain't Homeland XXX" and everywhere in between, unforgettable characters – most notably Claire Danes' Carrie Mathison, Damian Lewis' Nicholas Brody, and Mandy Patinkin's Saul Berenson – have permeated the inner rungs on pop culture notoriety and thus have been caricatured and exaggerated in the most lovingly hilarious ways.

Check out some of our favorites below and be sure to tune in to Season 5 of "Homeland" Sunday nights at 9PM ET/PT beginning October 4th.

SNL's "Homeland" (ft. Anne Hathaway, Bill Hader, Kenan Thompson)

The pinnacle of being parodied is of course getting a skit on "Saturday Night Live" -- but when the person playing you is a friend, things can get a bit dicey.

Such was the case in SNL's "Homeland" sketch, which featured Anne Hathaway as Carrie Mathison. Knowing the proverbial shit was about to get real, Hathaway sent a message to her friend:"Hi, um, so I'm hosting SNL and I really hope we can still be friends."

"Then she sent me this big bouquet of flowers," Danes, who has said that she chose friendship over curiosity and thus forwent ever watching the episode, explained during a panel discussion in 2013.

"Sesame Street: Homelamb"

Never underestimate the cleverness of "Sesame Street." Despite it undeniably being a show directed at children, "Homelamb" is most certainly for the adults. Straying from the obvious cliches, their choice to distill "Homeland" into a "wolf in sheep's clothing" theme makes it hands down the most intelligent and witty parody of the bunch.

Barely Productions' "Walking Dead Homeland!"

The viral experts over at Barely Productions offered a two-for-one parody of their own with "Walking Dead Homeland!" which finds Brody sauntering around as a zombie posing as "just really pale."

If nothing else, the sheer amount of references to both hit shows is impressive.

Woof ... that is all.

The Simpsons "Homerland"

You can't have a list about "Homeland" parodies with including the show that has expertly packed more pop culture references in its history than possibly any other: "The Simpsons"! In the Season 25 premiere episode, America's longest running sitcom presented "Homerland," an homage to "Homeland" that put Homer in the hot seat after returning from a nuclear power conference where Lisa believed him to have been turned into a domestic terrorist.

It can also be called the most dedicated parody, devoting a full 30-minute episode to the concept.

"Dana Passes The Salt"

Though Carrie and Saul are by far the most iconic characters, the show's cast runs deep and Brody's daughter Dana (played by Morgan Saylor) gained her own legion of outspoken audience members who have been split between sympathizing with her moody PTS-Teenopause and wondering if the world would be a better place if she just passed the damn salt.

"This Ain't Homeland XXX"

The annals of our collective consciousness run into some deep and dark places, but still there is no denying that the true sign of reaching the critical masses is having a porn parody. The cast of "Homeland" can safely say they've reached that level of fame with Hustler Video's "This Ain't Homeland XXX" series as proof -- and it stars Tara Lynn Foxx (of "Rectal Romance" and "Charlie Shein's Las Vegas Party XXX" fame) to boot.
