It's no secret that Howard and the staff are huge fans of "Saturday Night Live." From the original cast (Bill Murray, Chevy Chase) through the 90's (David Spade, Dennis Miller, Amy Pohler, Tina Fey) to the most current cast (Keenan Thompson, Bobby Monihan, Bill Hader) the Howard Stern Show has been a place for the not-ready-for-prime-time-players to star on their own.
But one star has eluded us until now. Today we welcomed possibly the greatest SNL'er of them all - Dan Aykroyd.
But enough of us - listen to Dan is his own voice in these highlights from his interview:
WHY HE THINKS HE'LL NEVER WORK WITH HIS FRIEND BILL MURRAY AGAIN
Despite proclaiming they are friends Howard asked Dan why he didn't think they'd work together again. Well, Dan says he's written Bill four scripts for him and it's tough to get him to read them...
"I FLUSHED A LOT OF COKE DOWN THE TOILET"
Dan's friendship with John Belushi was legendary and the end, of course, was tragic. Dan was originally writing Ghostbusters as a movie for himself and Belushi and was actually writing a piece of dialogue for John when he got "the call". His first thought was to rush to John's widow's side to deliver the news before she heard it from the papers. He barely made it.
Recalling those last days Dan remembered being worried for his friend. "I flushed a lot of coke down the toilet," Dan remembered, saying Belushi would get mad at him for it. As for whether he forgives the woman who put the last needle in John's arm, well, you'll just have to listen to the clip!
'Very, Very Happy' With the 'Ghostbusters' Reboot
There are some out there who are worried about Paul Feig's all-female reboot of Ghostbusters. Dan is not one of them.
As a father of several daughters he's "all about female empowerment". He's also read the script and found it very funny.
But don't count Dan's own script for Ghostbusters 3 out. He has it, it's ready and according to Dan, it still might get made some day.
DAN'S MT. RUSHMORE FOR 'SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE' IS....
Dan isn't a fan of ranking SNL cast members through the years. It's not fair he claims. Hell, he said he'd put himself behind Phil Hartman if he had a list.
But who would be on the Mt. Rushmore of SNL? Dan has three names for sure, and you can hear them all in the clip above!
'I WOULD HAVE LOVED IT IF HE HAD JUST GONE OFF'
Even Dan was hoping for more from Eddie Murphy's appearance on SNL 40.
PRAISE FOR THE KING
It wasn't just a Aykroyd love fest. Saying he was impressed to be with the King of All Media, Dan explained why he admires Howard and the show.
