Bad News Booey: Gary and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad First Pitch (Video)

Watch the Stern Show executive producer throw what many have called the worst first pitch in MLB history

July 27, 2015

There’s a saying in baseball—heroes get remembered but legends never die. For Stern Show executive producer Gary “Baba Booey” Dell’Abate, his 2009 ceremonial first pitch at Citi Field will always be remembered and, unfortunately for him, the jokes about his throw just will not die.

Anyone in the stands that day or watching at home knew the pitch was one of the worst in baseball history. Stern Show celebrity superfan Jimmy Kimmel questioned why Gary would agree to take the mound in the first place. “If it goes well, nobody cares,” he pointed out. “But if it goes badly, it’s something that can haunt you for the rest of your life.

In the special commemorative video (above) those who were there, those who were affected, and those who uttered a collective shudder at the sight of Gary’s throw all come together to reflect back on what happened that day. As for whether Gary is willing to give it another shot, he doesn’t even have to think about it.

“Would I do it again? Fuck no!” he said emphatically.
