Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan was named as the new president of TNA Wrestling.
IMPACT Ventures, the Nashville-based company that oversees the popular wrestling brand, released a statement on Friday confirming the top level appointment. The iconic singer replaces former president Dixie Carter, whose new title will be Chairman and Chief Strategy Officer.
According to the release, Corgan's responsibilities as president include "leading day-to-day operations for IMPACT and its affiliated brands."
It should be noted that Corgan, a longtime wrestling fan, joined the company in 2015 as a senior producer.
"I believe in this company, its passionate fans, the talented roster and the dedicated staff and crew," he said in the release. "I am committed to this great opportunity and will use all of my resources and connections to drive the success of this company."
The new gig may come as a surprise to Smashing Pumpkins fans clinging to rumors of a possible reunion, but for now it seems the wrestling world will get Corgan's full attention.
