Neil Young Hits the Road in ‘Already Great’ Music Video

Legendary rocker’s ode to America gets set to a cross-country trek

December 4, 2017

In the music video for Neil Young’s “Already Great,” the opening track of his new album with backing band Promise of the Real, the legendary rocker sets out on an epic road trip to prove America is great just the way she is.

Shot mostly from the perspective of a faceless driver, the video (above) takes viewers on a journey through a litany of American landmarks and landscapes, including lush forests, orange deserts, and snow-capped mountains, as well as highways overrun with wild buffalo.

“Already Great” hails from Neil and Promise of the Real’s album “The Visitor,” released on Friday. This comes just a few months after the September release of Neil’s solo acoustic album “Hitchhiker,” which he recorded 41 years ago in Malibu, Calif.

The 2014 Stern Show guest was also a topic of conversation during Howard’s October interview with Smashing Pumpkins frontman William Patrick Corgan. Not only did Corgan tell Stern Show listeners about the time he shared a tepee with Neil, Marilyn Manson, and Lou Reed, but the rocker also performed a rendition of one of Neil’s most beloved hits. Listen to Corgan cover “After the Gold Rush” on the Stern Show (below).
