As Richard Christy and Wolfie learned recently at Wing Bowl 25, competitive eating is a simultaneously fascinating and horrifying activity to behold. As it turns out, it reaches a whole other level when sugary, soft Peeps are involved.
Competitive eater Matt Stonie took on the Easter candy staple at the 2017 World Peeps Eating Championship and emerged victorious, devouring 255 Peeps to set a new world record. Stonie—the second-ranked competitive eater in Major League Eating—holds other eating records, such as for hot dogs and poutine. Notably, Stonie toppled 8-time winner Joey Chestnut in the 2015 Nathan’s Hot Dog eating contest.
