Watch Billy Joel Cover the Beatles Classic ‘A Day in the Life’ Live

"Sgt. Pepper's" track turns 50 this year

June 19, 2017

On Saturday night, Billy Joel treated the audience at his Green Bay, Wis. concert to a rendition of the Beatles’ “A Day in the Life” off the band’s influential 1967 album, “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band,” which turns 50 this year.

It’s not the first time he’s covered the tune, either. Rolling Stone reported that Billy also performed the track during his May 25 concert at Madison Square Garden in New York City, telling the audience: “I’ve been wanting to do this for a long time … It was a remarkable album, they were my favorite band, and they inspired me to do what I do now and what I’ve done all my life.”

Billy has visited the Stern Show on numerous occasions and in 2010 told Howard about the time he had Paul McCartney over his house to trade tunes (in addition to the strict culinary measures he took to prepare for the visit). Check out more from that interview here and watch Billy cover “A Day in the Life” (above).
