The 2017 MTV Video Music Awards has released its full list of nominees. Leading the pack with eight nominations is rapper Kendrick Lamar, followed by The Weeknd and past Stern Show guest Katy Perry who each received five.

In addition to being nominated, Perry will host and perform at this year’s event. “I’ve been training with MTV in zero gravity, eating astronaut ice cream, and I’m on a group text with Buzz Aldrin and Neil deGrasse Tyson,” Perry said in a statement. “Come August 27th, I’ll be ready to be your MOONWOMAN! Brace for impact, kids.”

She also tweeted a short video announcement (below).

As part of a conscious effort on the MTV's part to move away from gendered categories, Best Female Video and Best Male Video have this year been merged and replaced with one super-category: Artist of the Year. Up for that Moonman statuette in 2017 are Lamar, The Weeknd, Lorde, Bruno Mars, Ariana Grande, and repeat Stern Show guest Ed Sheeran, among others.

Sheeran was nominated for three awards in total, including Best Cinematography ("Castle on the Hill") and Best Pop Video ("Shape of You"). The British singer-songwriter performed several songs when he last visited the Stern Show studio in March, "Castle on the Hill" included among them. Watch the performance (below) and listen to his full interview with Howard here.

Sheeran and Perry aren't the only Stern Show veterans to get mentions this year. Nominated in the Best Rock category are Green Day, Foo Fighters, and Chris Martin's Coldplay, among others. Also, Sia's poignant video "The Greatest" got a nod for Best Choreography, while the Chainsmokers got two for their Halsey collaboration "Closer." Former Stern Show guest and recent Tony winner John Legend scored a nomination in another brand new category, too, for his video "Surefire" which is up for Best Fight Against the System.

The 2017 MTV Video Music Awards air live from The Forum in Inglewood, Calif., on Sunday, Aug. 27 at 8 p.m. ET. Check out the full list of nominees (below) and vote for the winners here.
