VIDEO: Alicia Vikander Searches for Her Dad but Finds Her Destiny in New ‘Tomb Raider’ Trailer

Action-packed video game adaptation hits theaters March 16

Alicia Vikander’s backstory gets further fleshed out in the latest trailer for “Tomb Raider,” the action-filled origin story of archaeological adventurer Lara Croft.

The new official trailer (above) begins with her character Lara Croft living a relatively mundane life in London, though she hasn’t given up hope of finding her father (Dominic West) who went missing years ago. Destiny eventually comes a-knockin’, however, when Lara finds a clue to her dad’s whereabouts and winds up getting sucked into a deadly, international conspiracy.

Like the “Tomb Raider” video game it’s adapted from, the film trailer puts Ms. Croft in different perilous situations at almost every turn. Vikander, who won an Oscar for “The Danish Girl” and has also starred in recent hits “The Man from U.N.C.L.E.” and “Ex Machina,” looks to be in near-perfect physical condition for the stunt-heavy role which sees her character dangling effortlessly over waterfalls when she’s not leaping across treacherous gorges.

“Tomb Raider,” co-starring Walton Goggins (“The Hateful Eight”), Daniel Wu (“Into the Badlands”), and Kristin Scott Thomas (“Darkest Hour”), swings into theaters March 16. Watch the trailer (above).
