Saving the world doesn’t look easy in the new trailer for “Pacific Rim Uprising,” the upcoming sequel about an ongoing conflict between trans-dimensional, city-leveling monsters and the human-piloted super-machines built to kill them.

Directed and co-written by Steven S. DeKnight of Netflix’s “Daredevil” fame, the action-packed film follows a rebellious “Jaeger” pilot named Jake Pentecost (John Boyega of “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” fame) hoping to avenge the death of his father, a war hero who died fighting monsters in the Guillermo del Toro-helmed 2013 original.

Thankfully, Jake won’t have to save mankind all by his lonesome—he’ll have the help of several other pilots, hackers, and support crew played by franchise newcomers Scott Eastwood, Adria Arjona, Cailee Spaeny, Tian Jing, and returning veterans Rinko Kikuchi, Charlie Day, and Burn Gorman.

Del Toro—whose latest effort “The Shape of Water” was this week nominated for 13 Oscars—serves as a producer on “Pacific Rim Uprising,” smashing its way into theaters on March 23.
