Amandla Stenberg wages a resistance with her band of supernatural teens in the first trailer for the highly anticipated summer film “The Darkest Minds,” out Aug. 3.
The movie, based on Alexandra Bracken’s best-selling novel, takes place in a dystopian world where a plague has wiped out scores of children and left others with mysterious powers. Stenberg plays 16-year-old Ruby who escapes government detainment and becomes determined to fight back with the help of other gifted teens.
"The Darkest Minds" also stars Mandy Moore as Dr. Cate Connor, an ally to the resistance, as well as "Game of Thrones" standout Gwendoline Christie as Lady Jane, a bounty hunter sent to find the runaway teens. The film is produced by Shawn Levy ("Stranger Things") and directed by Jennifer Yuh Nelson ("Kung Fu Panda 2") in her first live-action movie.
