Billy Corgan Encounters Kids on Leashes, Mimes With Guns, & a Man Vomiting Bile in Smashing Pumpkins’ ‘Solara’ Music Video

Trippy clip follows the reunited rockers' recent visit to the Stern Show

June 28, 2018

Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan goes on a wild journey in the video for his band’s new single “Solara,” but in the end the recent Stern Show guest finds himself back right where he started.

Released Thursday, the Nick Koenig-directed clip (above) begins with Billy being held captive in a tiny room with a cage. Three women soon enter, attach a chain to his neck, pump him full of “trauma,” and lead him around a hellish house of otherworldly horrors, which includes everything from a mime giving birth to an invisible baby to a man in a bow tie puking up bile. Billy eventually breaks free of his captors and escapes to daylight. But he soon finds that his bizarre neighborhood—chock full of kids on leashes, guys covered in ants, and hooded executioners—might well be more dangerous than the place he escaped.

When the Smashing Pumpkins returned to the Stern Show earlier this month, Billy opened up to Howard about a real-life otherworldly experience he had with what he said was a naked shapeshifter. He also discussed getting the band back together at an Asian fusion restaurant and recording new music with famed producer Rick Rubin. Additionally, the newly re-formed Smashing Pumpkins put on a mini concert for the Stern Show and its listeners, performing their classic hit “Bullet With Butterfly Wings” along with their new single “Solara,” the band’s first track in 18 years to feature founding guitarist James Iha and drummer Jimmy Chamberlin.

The Smashing Pumpkins reunion tour kicks off July 12 in Glendale, Arizona. Watch the video for “Solara” (above) and watch Howard’s interview with the band here.
