VIDEO: Jerry Seinfeld and Jerry Lewis Order Eggs With a Side of Laughs in New ‘Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee’ Clip

Seinfeld interviews the comedy legend a few months before his 2017 death

Two of history’s funniest Jerrys give their waitress a hard time in a new teaser for “Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee,” debuting just ahead of the Netflix series’ Season 10 premiere on Friday.

The minute-long clip (above) previews a conversation between Jerry Seinfeld, the show’s host, and comedy legend Jerry Lewis, who passed away in 2017 shortly after filming the episode. They’re sitting down together at a greasy spoon and when the waitress comes to take their breakfast orders both comedians decide to tease her a bit. Lewis wants three fried eggs and “very, very, very stiff bacon,” while Seinfeld rejects an offer for potatoes, tomato slices, and even homemade pumpkin bread.

Jerry passed away in August of last year at the age of 91 and soon after Howard offered up a heartfelt on-air tribute to the comedy icon. “He could walk in and just be funny,” the King of All Media told listeners.

When Seinfeld joined the Stern Show later that year, he and Howard spoke all about “Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee,” even revealing some of the guests who would be riding along with him on this new season. He also said the inspiration for his hit series was partially born out of a coffee date with legendary Beatle Sir Paul McCartney and partially attributable to the fact that a quick cup of joe is just about all he has time for these days.

“When you’re married and you have three kids you can’t meet people for lunch anymore. You don’t have time for lunch. But you can meet for coffee,” Jerry told Howard with a laugh. “I don’t want to sit down and have a whole meal with you. I don’t have time.”

Thankfully, should Jerry ever decide he’s too busy even just for coffee, there’s another iconic talk show host waiting in the wings. When David Letterman returned to the Stern Show in 2017, he told Howard he was willing to take over if need be. “God forbid Jerry can’t do his show … just give it to me,” David said. “It’s the only good, new idea in the new generation of multi-platform television productions.” Listen to a clip from Howard and Letterman’s conversation (below).

Season 10 of “Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee,” featuring an array of guests including Ellen DeGeneres, Tracy Morgan, Dana Carvey, Dave Chappelle, and Alec Baldwin, is available now on Netflix.
