Oscar-winning actress and recent “Ray Donovan” addition Susan Sarandon plays a heartbroken E.R. nurse who will stop at nothing to free her kidnapped son in “Viper Club,” a politically charged thriller headed to theaters in October.

The first teaser (above) begins with Helen (Sarandon) coming to the harrowing realization her character son Andy (Julian Morris)—an overseas war correspondent—has been abducted by nefarious forces and is being held for ransom in Syria. Helen coordinates with the F.B.I. to try and negotiate his release, but their efforts stall and she’s forced to try different avenues.

She eventually learns her son is part of a clandestine community called the Viper Club, filled with journalists, advocates, and philanthropists who may be willing to help. It’s there she stumbles across and enlists the help of characters played by “Private Parts” star Edie Falco and “Magic Mike’s” Matt Bomer.

Directed and co-written by Maryam Keshavarz and produced by YouTube Originals, the film also stars Lola Kirke and Sheila Vand.

“Viper Club” premiered at the 2018 Toronto International Film Festival and opens Oct. 26 in select theaters.
