AUDIO: Maren Morris Teams With Hozier on Fresh Version of Her Song ‘The Bones’

Original tune hails from country superstar’s latest album, “GIRL”

October 4, 2019

A Grammy-winning Stern Show veteran has teamed up with one of Stern Show co-host Robin Quivers’ most beloved musicians to release a new rendition of a popular song.

Country superstar Maren Morris has enlisted the help of Irish singer-songwriter Hozier on a fresh version of “The Bones,” a single off her critically acclaimed 2019 album “GIRL.”

The two alternate verses in the lo-fi duet before coming together on an impactful chorus. Morris explained why she joined forces with Hozier in a statement given to Rolling Stone. “When I first heard ‘Like Real People Do’ I think I could actually hear my heart breaking and then immediately felt songwriter envy that I didn’t write it first. Hozier’s soul and vulnerability is so arresting and fit so well with the foundational theme of my song ‘The Bones,’” she said. “I feel so grateful to have him on it.”

Hozier is currently touring the U.S. in support of his second album, “Wasteland, Baby!” Maren, meanwhile, is headlining her “GIRL: The World Tour” through November with other upcoming stops in Hawaii. When Morris joined the Stern Show back in May, she performed “GIRL’s” titular single live on the air and even deconstructed the song for Howard. More recently, in August, she stopped by the Stern Show studio with her all-female supergroup the Highwomen—also featuring Brandi Carlile, Natalie Hemby, and Amanda Shires—and delivered two songs, including a stirring rendition of Fleetwood Mac’s “The Chain.” Check it out (below).

Maren Morris’s “GIRL” is available now.
