April 5, 2019

Daniel LaRusso won the battle when he kicked Johnny Lawrence’s butt in 1984’s All Valley Karate Championship tournament, but 35 years later their war still rages on.

On Thursday, YouTube dropped the official trailer for “Cobra Kai,” arriving later this month. The clip for the “Karate Kid” sequel series’ new batch of episodes shows Daniel (Ralph Macchio) and Johnny (William Zabka) adding fuel to the fire of their decades-long feud as the karate masters turned senseis battle for dojo supremacy.

While the last promo focused on the rivals’ opposing karate philosophies, this new one boasts more action, including karate students fighting at school, karate students fighting on the beach, and even Daniel and Johnny facing off one final time. There’s also an appearance from John Kreese (Martin Kove), Johnny’s Cobra Kai sensei in the original films who showed up out of nowhere at the end of Season 1.

“I thought you were dead,” Johnny tells his old teacher in the trailer.

“Cobra Kai never dies,” Kreese responds.

“Cobra Kai,” also starring Tanner Buchanan, Courtney Henggeler, Mary Mouser, and Xolo Maridueña, is written and executive produced by Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz, and Hayden Schlossberg. The show’s debut season was praised by critics far and wide, including the Stern Show’s own resident TV expert Jon Hein, who listed it as one of the best shows from 2018.

“Cobra Kai” Season 2 debuts April 24 on YouTube Premium.
