Robert Eggers’ black-and-white film sets sail Oct. 18

Four-time Oscar nominee Willem Dafoe and 2017 Stern Show guest Robert Pattinson’s relationship is quite literally on the rocks in “The Lighthouse,” an upcoming thriller from filmmaker Robert Eggers (“The Witch”).

Set in the late 19th Century, the trailer for the black-and-white film begins with Pattinson approaching a prickly old lighthouse keeper (Dafoe) in the hopes of becoming his apprentice. Dafoe takes him on but questions his motives, accusing Pattinson of running from a dark secret in his past. As a storm approaches, the two men are forced to spend more time together and madness soon creeps in by way of the sea.

“How long have we been on this rock? Five weeks? Two days? Help me to recollect,” Dafoe says over a montage of rough waves and lighthouse-keeper-on-lighthouse-keeper violence.

Robert, of course, wasn’t shy about discussing his past when he sat down with Howard for the first time in 2017. The actor opened up about everything from his turbulent childhood and nearly getting fired from “Twilight” to how being famous has affected his romantic relationships. Robert also spoke to Howard about what it would take for him to embrace his first superhero role—and embrace one he finally did in May when he was announced as the next Batman. Watch a clip from Howard and Robert’s interview (below).

“The Lighthouse” opens Oct. 18.
