VIDEO: Zach Galifianakis Kills Matthew McConaughey in ‘Between Two Ferns: The Movie’

David Letterman, Will Ferrell, and Chrissy Teigen also appear in the trailer for the upcoming Netflix comedy

The talk show business is more dangerous than it looks in the trailer for Zach Galifianakis’s Netflix comedy “Between Two Ferns: The Movie,” arriving later this month.

Directed by Scott Aukerman and based off Zach’s tongue-in-cheek Funny Or Die series of the same name, the film follows Galifianakis as he takes his two ferns and curmudgeonly attitude on the road hoping to get his talk show picked up by a network.

The clip begins with Zach berating Matthew McConaughey during an interview, mocking him for both his Oscar victory and sex symbol status—two subjects the actor spoke to Howard about during a 2017 Stern Show visit. But Matt is distracted by a dripping noise on Galifianakis’s set. “You have a major leak in here,” Matt tells him (above) just before several pipes explode and violently wash him away.

The mishap enrages the show’s producer, Will Ferrell, who co-stars in the film as himself. “You killed Matthew McConaughey!” Will yells. ”He was momentarily dead.” But Will gives Zach and his ferns an out: scour the country in search of more celebs, film 10 new episodes of the show, and all of Zach’s talk-show hosting dreams might still come true.

The trailer is filled with other big names, including “Captain Marvel’s” Brie Larson, “Mad Men’s” Jon Hamm, model Chrissy Teigen, “Doctor Strange” star Benedict Cumberbatch, and past Stern Show guests Paul Rudd, John Legend, and David Letterman. “I’m just curious about the pathology behind this,” Letterman tells Zach during yet another awkward interview (above).

“Between Two Ferns: The Movie debuts” Sept. 20 on Netflix—and not in theaters.
