Green Day Dabbles in Voyeurism, Viral Memes, and Virtual Reality in New Music Video for ‘Oh Yeah!’

Song appears on the California rockers’ upcoming “Father of All…” LP

Green Day tackles everything from amateur pornography to smartphone addiction in the new music video for “Oh Yeah!,” the third single off the California rockers’ forthcoming “Father of All Motherfuckers” album.

The Malia James-directed music video (above) begins with drummer Tré Cool satirizing YouTube’s glut of musical instrument tutorials with him offering to teach viewers how to drum along to the tune at hand. It’s soon revealed the clip is streaming from the phone of a distracted driver who nearly runs over Billie Joe Armstrong outside of a supermarket. “Oh Yeah!” never slows down from there, skewering everything from cheap pornography and cheesy local newscasts to the wonders of virtual reality.

As Stern Show fans will remember, Green Day gave Howard a concert he could never forget back in October to close out the King of All Media’s wild week in Hollywood. While the guys never donned any V.R. headsets in SiriusXM’s West Coast studios, they did perform two of their best-known hits: “American Idiot” and “Wake Me Up When September Ends.” They also performed the title track from their upcoming “Father of All Motherfuckers” album, which Billie said was a departure for him in terms of subject matter.

“[It’s] the first time I’ve ever written about money,” Billie told Howard, explaining he had “mixed emotions” about the financial success he’s had over his career. “We come from such broke backgrounds … You gotta practice your gratitude every day.”

Green Day’s “Father of All Motherfuckers” hits shelves Feb. 7. Watch the band perform the title track (above).
