VIDEO: Andy Samberg Drinks, Dabbles in Drugs, and Disarms Wedding Cake Bombs in Time Loop Comedy ‘Palm Springs’

Cristin Milioti and Oscar-winning Stern Show veteran J.K. Simmons co-star in the July 10 rom-com

Time is a flat circle for “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” star and 2016 Stern Show guest Andy Samberg in “Palm Springs,” a sci-fi sprinkled romantic comedy arriving next month on Hulu.

The trailer (above) begins with the actor and comedian delivering a heartfelt speech at an oasis wedding. “Here you are, standing on the precipice of something so much bigger than anyone here. But always remember: you are not alone,” his character Nyles tells the bride and groom.

His words win over the entire crowd, most especially Sarah (“The Wolf of Wall Street’s” Cristin Milioti), the despondent maid of honor. Soon, Sarah and Nyles are grinding on the dance floor and making out atop a pile of rocks. Things get weird after a masked assailant shoots Samberg’s character with an arrow. He flees the scene like a wounded animal and leads Sarah to a mysteriously lit cave. When she wakes up in the morning, she discovers she and Nyles are stuck living the same exact day over and over again.

“It’s one of those infinite time loop situations you might’ve heard about,” Nyles unhelpfully explains.

After realizing their actions no longer have consequences, the duo decides to kill time by stealing planes, driving headfirst into trucks, and defusing bombs buried inside wedding cakes. At one point, Samberg also makes friends with a mysterious stranger (fellow Stern Show veteran J.K. Simmons) who shows him where to score cocaine.

Directed by Max Barbakow and written by Andy Sia, “Palm Springs” co-stars Meredith Hagner, Camila Mendes, Tyler Hoechlin, and Peter Gallagher. Samberg’s group the Lonely Island co-produced the film, which premiered earlier this year at Sundance Film Festival. As Stern Show fans may remember, Andy spoke all about “SNL” during his sit-down with Howard a few years back. Watch a clip from the interview (below).

“Palm Springs” arrives July 10 on Hulu.
