Farewell to a Pioneer

October 25, 2005

Howard reported that Rosa Parks, one of the key people involved in the civil rights movement, died yesterday at the age of 92. Howard pointed out that Rosa’s refusal to give up her seat on the bus to a white passenger triggered a series of events that changed this country. Robin agreed with Howard, adding that Martin Luther King, Jr. became well-known only after he got involved with Rosa. Robin also said that after Rosa’s act of defiance, black people in Alabama, where the event occurred, became so outraged that they boycotted the state’s bus system, which crippled the industry.
