All Pets Beware

November 4, 2005

Howard mentioned that when he returned to his old house in Roosevelt with “60 Minutes” earlier this week, all he could think about were the two pets who died under his care.

Howard explained that since his mother wouldn’t let animals in the house, he had to keep whatever pets he had in the backyard.

Howard reported that a frog named “Dainty Jainty” that he brought home from camp was stung by a bee and died during its first night in his yard, while his mother gave his one other pet, a chicken, to a farmer.

After telling the story, Howard pointed out that anyone who thought his life sounded lonely when he was young was right.

Robin agreed, adding that she got that impression when she heard the tapes Howard played yesterday of his Batman broadcast when he was 13 years old.
