Before Robin started the news, she, Artie, Fred and Gary presented Howard with the Christmas gift they all purchased for him.
Upon opening it, Howard noted that it was an old-time microphone, which Gary pointed out was actually a rare RCA 44 Ribbon Velocity Microphone.
Gary then mentioned that the microphone was the exact model Howard had said he wanted when he saw one in the SIRIUS building earlier this year.
While Scott the Engineer plugged in the microphone for Howard to use, Gary noted that the present cost a total of $4,000, which, he admitted, was twice the amount it would've been had he not been swindled out of the original $2,000 by a scam artist on eBay.
Gift-Giving 101 With Ralph
Ralph called in and said that he didn't think Robin, Artie, Fred and Gary individually spent enough money on Howard's present. Ralph also mentioned that he didn't like the way each of them didn't come up with his or her own idea for what to get Howard and instead took what, he felt, was the easy way out by joining in to buy the microphone.
Gary pointed out that, like all of them, Howard has also provided Ralph with a good life, so he wondered what he got him for Christmas. When Ralph responded that he hadn't done his shopping for Howard yet,
Robin said that since paying Howard back for all he's done with money is impossible, his friends instead have to show their appreciation to him through sentiment.
Howard then insisted that he loved the microphone and went on to acknowledge that he has helped out Ralph quite a bit. In fact, he even gave him the iPod Nano that came with the gift bag he got for doing "The Daily Show" yesterday.
This led Gary to ask Ralph if he planned on "re-gifting" the Nano as he has done with other presents in the past. Despite the criticism he received for his feelings, Ralph finished his call by saying that the microphone would've been an acceptable present if two people had chipped in for it, but not four people.
