Country singer, Deana Carter, came in today to promote her new CD, "The Story of my Life," in stores now. Howard, who knows nothing about country music, invited her in because she's a hot chick. Gary stuck a calendar in front of him one day and said she wanted to come in, Howard took one look and told Gary to book her immediately. Even though Howard is clueless about her music, he played a clip of one of her new songs and said it sounded pretty good to him.
He said it was more than country, that it sounded like pop too. Deana came in and said that when she started in the music business, she was an alternative artist, but the record company pushed her into the country genre. Howard and Robin said her music sounded a little like Ashley Simpson or Avril Lavigne. Deana comes from musical roots; her dad was a guitar player and was friends with musical giants like Bob Dylan, Levon Helm, Kris Kristofferson, and Willie Nelson. She even became friends with Willie, playing golf and smoking weed with him from time to time. Willie even gave her a break at his Farm Aid concert in 1994, allowing her to perform live before she had any albums out. She said her dad played guitar on Simon & Garfunkel's albums, most notably on the song, "The Boxer." Deana just had her first baby this year and is engaged to the baby's father, she says she's doing it backwards because she was married once before.
Howard didn't think she was really into her man because he thinks she still has feelings for her one time boyfriend, actor James Denton, the hunky plumber from the show "Desperate Housewives." She admitted that she will always have love for her ex, whom she dated for 6 years and lost her virginity to.
Jeff the Drunk came back in to sing a song for Deana, he's a huge fan of hers. He was delayed a little bit because he was banished to the back of the building for being annoying. Artie "Jeff" said, "You can't throw up on a fax machine with Ronnie the Nazi around!" Howard immediately regretted bringing him back in and threw him out after he sang "Strawberry Wine" for Deana and demanded to see her feet.
Deana said she's got a crush on Howard and admires him for what he's done with his career and for sticking to his guns. She even likened him to Oprah, Howard said he gets that a lot; they're both fat, black women. Howard played some more clips of her songs and was interested to know how she writes a song. Deana said she just gets a melody and the words just kind of follow. Howard said he lost the art of songwriting in 6th grade, and played his "Psychedelic Bee" song, which Sugar Ray remade.
Robin joked that Howard got out of songwriting because he was no good and now Mark McGrath is out of the music business too. Howard wrapped up with Deana and Robin started the news to end today's show.
