Bubba the Love Sponge, a radio personality fired by Clear Channel and hired by Howard, came onto the show to talk about his future at SIRIUS. Howard admitted that in the past he and Bubba had unkind words for one another, but that wasn't enough to keep him from realizing that Bubba was unfairly discharged from his job. Because Howard wants to assemble an army of DJs who understands the motives behind his satellite revolution, he was willing to put aside whatever differences he and Bubba may have had and invite him to join his stations on SIRIUS.
Fired for Being Himself
When discussing his termination from Clear Channel, Bubba said that not only did he make a ton of money for the company, but that he worked there for 13 years. He was let go the day after Clear Channel fired Howard, thanks to pressure the company was feeling at the hands of the FCC. Robin pointed out that Bubba ended up getting the axe for the exact reasons he was hired in the first place: being controversial and speaking his mind. Bubba commented that after he was fired, no one in the radio business would give him another shot. Howard responded that Bubba was a perfect example of the type of people he wants with him at SIRIUS.
Sal Steps In
Despite his reasoning for hiring Bubba, Sal took issue with Howard's decision. Sal insisted that Howard shouldn't ignore all the negative things Bubba has said about him throughout the years. Bubba explained that when DJs compete against someone of Howard's stature, the only defense they had was to put him down. He admitted that radio personalities are jealous of Howard, even though they go out of their way to badmouth him. Bubba added that he was extremely grateful that Howard has agreed to put him back on the air at SIRIUS. When Sal still wouldn't accept him, Bubba told him that he was nothing more than a glorified intern. Sal responded by calling Bubba, "Cabbie Light." Howard commented that, although they didn't see eye to eye at the moment, he was sure Sal and Bubba would end up being friends. However, Artie wasn't confident that would be the case.
