Martina Navratilova made a surprise appearance in the studio this morning as Robin's guest. Martina said she turned 50 last month and jokingly noted she was considering getting plastic surgery because she recently saw a new wrinkle on her face. Martina proceeded to say she was married to her partner, but added that she did once have sex with a man years ago.
Martina also admitted she knew she lost out on endorsement money when she was in her tennis heyday because of the fact that she was a lesbian, but she wasn't bitter about it because, to her, that would've meant she was upset about being gay, which she is not. Martina next reported she was looking into opening no-kill shelters for dogs and cats, and asked Howard how Bianca was, and he replied "fine." Martina went on to recall she didn't come out of the closet until she was 25 years old, although she became involved with women six years prior to that. Martina added her home country of the Czech Republic had more accommodating laws toward homosexuals than America, and also acknowledged that her father was upset with the announcement that she was gay when she first told him.
Martina said she was thinking about adopting a baby, but that she wasn't in a hurry since she had just retired from tennis. After Martina mentioned she worked out and played hockey for fun, Howard asked her to give Artie some advice about his weight, pointing out that, at the time, he was consuming French toast following a morning full of cupcakes and other desserts. However, Martina replied by saying Artie "wasn't as fat" as she thought he'd be.
As Martina prepared to leave, she told Howard she listened to him on her own SIRIUS system, noting she was giving satellite radios as Christmas gifts this year. Artie then mentioned he couldn't finish his French toast and wondered if Martina wanted his leftovers, but she declined. Martina did point out, though, that she noticed a stain on Artie's cheek, and he acknowledged that he'd spilled Hawaiian Punch on himself earlier in the show.
