Jon commented that there was some controversy over how hard Will pitched the submissive, Joan Kelly, earlier this week, so he played a clip of a Thursday meeting where the subject was brought up. In the clip, Gary said that Joan sent him an e-mail explaining that she’d be willing to do just about anything on the air. Howard replied that Joan “could be a good interview, but you never know.” After a discussion about Joan’s “okay” looks, Howard wondered if they could bring her into the studio and then send her to the Martha Stewart Channel to get spanked. Howard then again noted that, although the idea of having a submissive was good to him, there was also a chance that Joan would “talk like a yenta” and not be at all sexual. Given this, Howard told Will to call Joan and, if he felt she had a radio voice, he should book her. Following the clip, Will came into the studio and reported that he warned Howard before Joan’s appearance that she wasn’t up to being “trashed” on the air, but that Howard still wanted her on. Will then acknowledged that he was “mildly” interested in Joan as a guest, but that he didn’t pitch her 15 times as Robin had accused him of doing. When Ralph suggested that no potential guest who Will thought was “mildly” interesting should be booked on the show, Will responded that it’s not his job to judge what other people might find entertaining. Jon played clips from Joan’s interview, in which she refused to do any of the commands she was given. Gary mentioned that he received an e-mail from Joan the day after her appearance in which she claimed that she got 50 messages from people who enjoyed her time on the show and that sales of her book, “The Pleasure’s All Mine,” had shot up the Amazon chart. Will then commented that he thought the clip of the Thursday meeting backed up his version of the story.
