TINY TIM TIMES THREE

TINY TIM TIMES THREE

Jon Hein began this week’s edition of “The Friday Show” with three clips from Howard’s days at KROCK, each featuring Tiny Tim. In the first clip, which took place in 1996, Tim told a story about the time he was in a motorized cart at an airport and, since he didn’t know how to drive the machine, he accidentally stepped on the gas pedal instead of the brake pedal, and ended up “running over” a woman.
Next, Tim discussed the time he and another man massaged each other, even though both of them were straight. Tim added he was 23 when the incident took place, and he and his friend touched each other while his parents were in the adjoining room. Although Tim claimed he got “sensual” with the other man, he pointed out they didn’t kiss each other or feel each other below the shoulders.
Following the clip, Gary recalled how Tiny Tim didn’t have a sense of humor, and lacked “the mechanism to lie,” as was evidenced by the previous discussion. Gary also remembered Tim had written a book that was quickly recalled because of the “gay story,” but a fan sent him a copy, which was how they found out about the massage in the first place.
In the final tape, Robin requested Howard play one of Tim’s Christmas songs, “Santa Has the AIDS this Year,” the lyrics of which were about Santa not being able to deliver presents because he was dying from complications of the disease. While Howard played the song, Tim sang along to it.
Hearing the “Santa” for the first time, Ralph thought it proved Tim had “a crazy, good sense of humor,” but Gary assured him that wasn’t the case. Gary then noted Tim was also married four times, and often requested that Gary keep his former wives away from any appearances he made in the studio.
