Howard started today talking about how Fred's wife, Allison, and Robin threw a surprise engagement party for him and Beth on Thursday night. Howard then talked about how he left Robin a voicemail on her cell phone to thank her, but Robin insisted she never got the message.
As a discussion began about why Robin might not have gotten the call, Artie commented that he thought Howard might've accidentally called Robin Leach, and said, in his Robin Leach voice, "Howard, it's Robin Leach. I don't remember throwing you a party but thank you so much for the message."
Howard went on to call Artie "the Bobby Fisher of speeches" given the one he made at that party. After Robin mentioned that everyone BUT Artie called her prior to the party to see if there was any dress code for it,
Howard pointed out Gary must not have made a call either, seeing as he was wearing a t-shirt that he pulled on all night to "hide his fat." Howard then asked Artie if he slept with the woman he brought to the party, but he responded that he didn't, although he added "the relationship" was going very well. Howard proceeded to play a clip of Artie's speech, but cut it short when a caller said it was very hard to hear the speech.
Howard went on to read an article from the New York Post that said the upcoming free preview of Howard TV – which will be available on this site starting Wednesday – was being promoted with an ice cream truck that was acting as a "video peepshow," and would be traveling around the country to show clips from the channel.
Early Morning Means No Party
Howard noted Scott the Engineer didn't attend Robin's party because he claimed had to get up early Friday morning for work, but Scott came into the studio to say the real reason he didn't show up was because he wanted to spend time with his son before he went to Europe.
However, Howard said he thought Scott could've shown up for two hours and still have spent time with his son, adding Scott was the person complaining last week about not being invited to most of the show's social gatherings.
Howard next said a number of people who worked on Friday still came to Robin's get-together, and that he therefore felt he shouldn't be invited to anymore parties, a suggestion Robin agreed with.
Howard told Scott that his workload was much lighter since the show moved to SIRIUS, but Scott insisted that wasn't true, despite the examples Howard gave to the contrary. Bobo then called in to criticize Scott for not having the decency to be at Robin's party for at least a few hours, and Howard added Scott's son went to Europe on a regular basis, so he didn't think Scott spending time with him prior to his departure Thursday was necessary.
The Worst of the Speakers
Since Sal was in the studio to talk about Scott, Howard mentioned he felt Sal gave the worst speech Thursday night, largely because it focused solely on Sal's infatuation with him. Sal assured Howard, though, that he was going to talk about Beth at the end of his speech, but that he never got to that part given how he was being heckled by the crowd.
As Sal continued to defend his speech, Howard played a clip of it, with Sal commenting on what a big influence Lesbian-Dial-A-Date had on him when he first heard it, which led everyone in the crowd to start booing him. Following the tape, Sal reported he was honored because Howard approached him on stage during his speech, which he thought was a gesture of appreciation, but discovered Howard was actually confronting him to demand he talk about Beth as well.
Howard went on to say he had to pull Richard aside early in the evening because of how much he'd been drinking, and Richard came into the studio to report he had seven glasses of champagne that night...before he moved on to wine. Gary also reported he'd heard Artie's girlfriend dropped a hors d'oeuvre down her cleavage, and that Scott DePace's wife had to help her retrieve it, while Artie mentioned he thought Benjy's girlfriend, Shelia, had one of the best speeches of the evening.
Howard then addressed yesterday's episode of "60 Minutes" before playing an interview Jason did with Sal's wife, Christine, from Thursday night. In the clip, Christine said she wished she'd married "a Jewish man" instead of Sal, explaining she thought Jewish men "did it all" in terms of supporting their families and helping around the house.
Whatever Helps Him Sleep
Howard played a clip of Sanjaya appearing last week on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show," claiming he didn't think Howard had any impact on his success on "American Idol."
However, Howard responded to the statement by saying he was sure his fans' participation was one of the main reasons Sanjaya made it as far as he did on the show, but also admitted he understood why Sanjaya wanted to believe it wasn't his lack of talent that kept him going.
Some Sacrifices Were Made
When Lisa G. was in the studio to talk about today's Howard 100 News' headlines, she acknowledged she was disappointed she wasn't invited to Howard's engagement party.
This led Robin to say she could only invite a certain number of people, and that if she asked one person from the news department, then she would've had to have asked everyone. Lisa responded, though, that Robin asked some of the head honchos from the news department to attend the event, and added she thought that meant Robin considered the reporters to be "the scum of the earth," an assertion Robin laughed off.
