The guys from Train stopped by to promote their new single, 'Marry Me,' and thanked Howard for supporting them before 'Hey Soul Sister' renewed their success.
Howard asked the session players backing up Pat and Jimmy if they were official members of the band, but they weren't sure what to say: "Are we allowed to talk?"
One of them shrugged: "I feel like we play so much together that I already am a part of Train."
Jimmy laughed: "But you're not."
Pat told Howard that the band was close to breaking up before 'Hey Soul Sister' broke: "I think we were real close to being dropped."
Howard asked if the label told them so, but Pat said the problem was personal: "It was more like, I don't know if I belong here in anymore."
After Howard said he'd talked with many people who'd written Train off pre-'Soul Sister,' Pat joked that he'd recently had the same conversation: "We were talking to people just last week and they were like, 'It's over for Stern.'"
