Staff Reacts to Rumors of Howard Joining ‘American Idol’

Gary Dell’Abate asked Howard about the rumors that Howard might replace Simon Cowell on “American Idol.”

“If I told you half the shit I get offered, your head would spin,” Howard responded. He said a monstrous offer would have to be on the table before he’d even consider the gig.

Would Ellen Quit?

Robin Quivers wondered if Howard’s presence might cause Ellen Degeneres to leave. Howard laughed that it probably would.

Howard then played a few clips of various news outlets discussing the rumor. He was baffled when some broadcasters questioned his ability to be an “Idol” judge. He asked what was so hard: “Sit there and judge? I do that anyway,” Howard said.

Eric the Actor Has Doubts

Eric the Actor called in with his own take. “I don’t think that’s gonna happen,” he said. “I don’t think you’re the right fit for the show.”

Howard disagreed but conceded he might not be the right fit for the “American Idol” budget. “I’m high-priced talent,” he said.

Howard added that he had big shoes to fill. “That show is nothing without Simon Cowell,” he said before adding that Eric the Actor could sit on his lap every once in a while should he end up taking the job.
