Howard reported that the show was having a Staff vs. Fans trivia battle tomorrow, and Gary and Fred had been selected as the staff representatives, as was Jon Hein.
However several members of the crew thought they should have the third slot instead of Jon.
Howard decided to have a run-off, but Jon refused to line up: "I was told I was doing this with Gary and Fred...then all of a sudden someone asks if I want to compete for the third spot." (Jon later admitted he should've participated: "I was a little bit of a baby about it.")
The contestants introduced themselves and gave their credentials. Sal was first: "I've been a superfan since 1987."
Jim McClure said he'd been in radio since 1989: "I know a lot of stuff."
Richie Wilson thought he had a good shot: "I won the last Stern staff trivia contest."
Brian Phelan matched Sal's listener record: "I've been listening for 23 years."
Benjy joked: "I've been a big fan since 2006." Tim Sabean pulled rank: "I've worked for the show since 1991."
Jason Kaplan said he had a lifetime of cred: "I was literally breastfed to the show."
