Howard on Ricky Gervais’ Golden Globes Monologue: Mean & Funny Equals Not Good

Howard said he wasn’t a big fan of Ricky Gervais’ now-infamous Golden Globes monologue, but not because of Ricky’s offensive material: “He made the mistake of not being exceptionally funny.” It wasn’t just that the jokes were bad–the unreceptive audience only made them look worse: “I actually think he missed the mark on that…he picked the wrong crowd.” Howard later added a word of praise: “I thought he had a lot balls doing it–don’t get me wrong.”
