Howard said he'd recently read an excerpt from Sammy Hagar's new memoir and couldn't wait to read more, but Gary wouldn't hand over the show's (only) advance copy.
Gary started to explain that it was being culled for an upcoming interview--and then stopped, as Will (in the background) promised to deliver a second copy by the end of the day.
Howard was pleased: "Gary always says no and Will always says yes...it's really true."
Howard was in fact so pleased that he immediately promoted Will and outlined his first order of business: "Will, fire Gary."
Gary said he knew Howard would rather wait and have the book's high-points at his fingertips: "Imagine I got you the book and we didn't have the research."
Howard snapped: "Imagine you got a second book!"
Gary asked if Will would take a punch for Howard--as Gary once did--but Howard said he knew Will wouldn't have a problem: "Will's a crazy man. He'd go to jail for me."
