Howard began his first show back from the holiday vacation by noting his latest effort to directly connect with his listeners: “New Year’s Eve, I drunk-dialed our fans.” Between news clips about the incident, Howard explained that he’d solicited for his fans’ phone numbers on Twitter. He called each of the first several dozen replies in order: “I did a couple of hours straight. I did about 60 people.” Howard said it started as a whim but quickly proved to be rewarding: “It was really kind of a nice thing to do…it was so much fun. I really enjoyed it.” Jeff Jarvis called in to compare the stunt with the time Howard live-tweeted an airing of ‘Private Parts’: “You understand how entertainment isn’t just about putting out a product. It’s about relationships.”
