Dick Clark Passes, ‘He Was an Excellent Game Show Host and He Made People Feel Good’

Early in the show, Howard noted the late Dick Clark’s odd career arc, starting with his ownership of every “American Bandstand” performance: “The rap among some musicians was that Dick Clark made his empire off of their hide.”

Still, Howard said he had respect for Dick: “He was an excellent game show host and he made people feel good. … He understood what people liked and I will miss him.”

But continuing his New Year’s Eve countdown post-stroke was sad: “It was unbelievable narcissism. It was like, enough.”
