Early in the show, Howard addressed news reports about his “Girls” review. “For the most part, I just sit here and sort of think out loud. I don’t have the luxury of an editor,” he said. Howard had struggled with the HBO series early on but has now come around to liking it, a testament to the show’s quality.

“I felt really good about what I had to say about the show because I’m a super fan now,” Howard explained. “I almost went to the premiere the other night.”

Howard went on to compare “Girls” creator, writer, director, and star Lena Dunham to Woody Allen and apologized for his incendiary first-take. “I felt bad because I really do love the show ‘Girls’ and enjoy it and I admire the girl who writes it,” Howard said, adding how upset he was to read news stories that only reported his first reaction to the series and not the rave review he gave one day later. Howard also stated he hoped to apologize to Lena in person later this week.
