Dave Attell: Slow Learner In Every Aspect of Life

"I was really not that great of a road comic until I was in my thirties. And I started when I was 22."

Dave Attell stopped by to promote the second season of his Showtime series “Dave’s Old Porn” a show that hadn’t prepared him to see Lisa G. confront Natalie Maines in the hallway. “It’s just weird to see two girls go at it,” Dave said. “It’s like the show ‘Girls’ but older. ‘Old Girls.'”

Asked if he was still broke, Dave nodded and said, “I’m kinda broke but I feel bad saying that when people are living like real Honey Boo Boo-broke.”

Dave said Showtime doesn’t fund or promote its late-night programming as much as primetime fare like “Homeland” or “Dexter,” so he’s had to shoulder a lot of the production costs himself. “I’m a horrible producer,” Dave told Howard. “I go over budget. And the budget is really low.”

He’s also a historically slow learner. “I was really not that great of a road comic until I was in my 30s. And I started when I was 22.”
