If you didn't get enough Scott DePace yesterday, he barreled into the studio again this morning. Howard TV did a lengthy Behind the Scenes show taking you behind the curtain for the set-up of Metallica's amazing performance on the Stern Show a few weeks ago.
Ineffectual Engineer Scott Salem came in on Sunday to set up all the equipment and sound check with Metallica's engineers. On Monday morning, just before the show started, Howard TV director Scott DePace came in and said the equipment was not set up to his television specifications and he'd like a few things to be moved. Scott Salem pointed out that DePace should've been here on Sunday if he was such a perfectionist.
Howard - maybe for the first time since he secretly recorded Stuttering John's Tonight Show audition for use on the show* – sided with Scott Salem.
We hope you're sitting down when we tell you that Scott DePace was argumentative and felt that he was right, all he wanted was something moved back. He asked Scott Salem to please think of him as "part of the team" and not an adversary.
He then tried to throw Scott under the bus by asking him why Avril Lavigne couldn't hear Robin at the beginning of her interview,, but Scott said it was because she'd turned her own monitor down.
Howard ended it by telling DePace that he did not come off well in the special, which Scott seemed to think was reality TV trickery. Howard pointed out that it's his own TV crew and show.
So to recap, in regards to the Metallica Fight, Scott DePace said either Scott Salem was wrong, the Howard TV crew was wrong, or Howard was wrong - but the one person who is most definitely not wrong is Scott DePace himself.
*For those that don't remember - Stuttering John used his time as a paid employee on the Howard Stern Show to cut demos for the Tonight Show announcing job. Scott - in a moment of treachery and genius - secretly recorded John and gave the tape to Howard. Howard applauded Scott's proactive move and played the tapes over and over again.
