Howard loves talking about old radio guys, especially when they do bad things, and nobody in radio has done anything worse than what former DJ David Herman allegedly did...in fact it's so bad we don't even want to print it here. It's all "alleged" anyway. You can read up on what Dave Herman is being accussed of here. And here.
And pretty much anywhere you Google his name.
Howard used to mercilessly make fun of Dave and his on-air delivery and Gary talked to him often when he was an afternoon guy at K-Rock. Howard says he always noticed that Dave would show up very early for his show and sit on the computer all day, supposedly working.
We say supposedly because Scott the Engineer claims that Dave spent much of his time playing a very early, computer version of Fantasy Baseball (believe it or not, Scott was an early adaptor to fantasy sports).
And maybe that's not all he was up to on the computer – as he's been arrested for (allegedly) soliciting sex with a minor via the internet.
He allegedly told a cop posing as the little girl's mother that he likes young girls because they're "incredibly sexy and soft" and that he wouldn't hurt the girl, though he may have to get forceful and ply her with alcohol.
Just as you'd think the story could not get any creepier, Dave was reportedly holding a stuffed animal as he waited for the little girl to arrive when he was arrested.
Gary quickly found a clip of when Dave was on the show back in 1991, when KROCK hired him for an afternoon stint.
Howard TV's Mike Gange called in with some first hand accounts of working with Dave. Gange said when he was an intern at K-Rock, everyone was terrified of David and interns would flee his studio in tears, with David screaming at them for making any small noise.
Howard chastised Gange for not informing him of this at the time, but Gange claims he was too frightened. Another piece of great radio forever lost.
It's a sad horrible story no matter which way it shakes out. But nothing's ever too serious to stop Gange getting hit with some shrapnel.
