Gary's No Good, Very Bad Day
Good morning everyone! Unless you're show producer Gary Dell'Abate, then today sucked. Here's a rundown of the mine field that is Gary's office life:
Gary's Sore Throat
Stern Show producer Gary Dell'Abate had a sore throat this morning, but his throat was bothering Howard far more than it bothered Gary.
Gary warned Howard of his sore throat and tried to put his mind at ease by saying that he feels fine, he isn't sick. That didn't matter to Howard.
Howard was so put-off by Gary's scratchy throat that he made Jon Hein hand him the papers that Gary would normally handle.
Gary explained that he went to dinner with his predecessor, former Stern Show producer (from way back at W-N-N-N-B-C) Boy Lee Davis over the weekend. The restaurant was loud and Gary - who loves to hear himself talk - decided to rise to the challenge and yell over the crowd.
All night long.
Consequently, he was horse this morning and couldn't raise his voice beyond a monotone.
Gary was more than willing to go home, all Howard had to do was say the word. Howard had a better idea, and put Gary in a surgical mask for the rest of the show.
After Gary masked up, Howard kept piling on. He was angry at Fred saying that Fred made a mistake when he hired Gary (Fred was the one to interview Gary back in 1984). Howard admitted that he should've fired Gary years ago but was too lazy to look for another producer.
Gary, naturally, was incredibly insulted. He protested that he was afraid to not come to work this morning because he gets endless shit when he calls out – remember when Gary stayed home with his trampoline during Hurricane Sandy? – so he sucked it up, cleared his throat, and headed into the studio.
Later in the show, Howard did apologize for being too harsh to Gary.
