John E. Sarno, the pioneering doctor behind the best-selling “Healing Back Pain: The Mind-Body Connection,” passed away on Thursday. He was 93.
“He was an amazing man,” Howard remembered Monday. “I got a note from his wife ... I wrote her back. I said, ‘I can’t tell you how sad I am that my hero is gone.’”
While many of his peers in the medical community were hesitant to accept Dr. Sarno’s theories that chronic pain can be traced back to psychological roots, patients found success in his treatment plans, including Howard.
“I suffered horribly from back pain for many years … and he really saved my life,” he said.
The day after Dr. Sarno passed away, a documentary about his work entitled “All the Rage” opened in New York. See more about it here.
Our deepest condolences go out to Dr. Sarno’s family and friends.
