After talking up his own his guitar skills on Wednesday’s Stern Show, Fred Norris showed up Monday morning ready to cover the Smashing Pumpkins’ “Bullet with Butterfly Wings” as proof of his musical prowess.

Fred’s assertion seemed uncharacteristically bold to his co-workers, who were eager to hear how he could perform. “Fred’s always so modest,” Robin noted.

Cuing the backing track with bass and drums, Fred took the lead on guitar and vocals—and even got Howard to join him in singing a chorus.

It’s no wonder the Stern Show’s sound effect extraordinaire was able to deliver a convincing cover on guitar, considering Billy Corgan and his Smashing Pumpkins bandmate James Iha offered a tutorial on the song while visiting the studio last week (below).
