Howard and co-host Robin Quivers were grief-stricken Monday morning by the loss of Hollywood legend Rob Reiner, who was reportedly killed Sunday night along with his wife Michele in their Brentwood, Calif., home.

“I just thought the world of this guy,” Howard said of the late actor and director. “From my vantage point, he just seemed like the most loving guy.”

Rob kicked off his acting career playing Meathead on the beloved ‘70s sitcom “All in the Family” before going behind the camera to direct a slew of classic films, including “This Is Spinal Tap,” “Stand by Me,” “Misery,” “The Princess Bride,” “When Harry Met Sally,” and “A Few Good Men.”

“The guy was a genius,” Howard said before playing clips of some of Rob’s visits to the Stern Show in which he discussed everything from his storied career to his unique upbringing as the son of famed screenwriter and comedian Carl Reiner.

In addition to being a singular talent, Rob also had the reputation of being one of Hollywood’s kindest stars. “He was mild-mannered and caring,” Robin told listeners. “He really cared about people.”

Howard agreed. “To lose him is a real loss,” he concluded. “Rob Reiner, what a beautiful man.”

Rob Reiner was 78.
