Pat recalled seeing Amber in the crowd while performing in Seattle and that, for the first time in his career, he asked a crew member to find out if she’d be interested in meeting him. Pat added that, even though Amber was engaged at the time, she agreed to meet him for coffee the following day. Robin then asked Amber what it was like breaking off her engagement, which Amber acknowledged was difficult. However, Pat pointed out that he learned that Amber was crying earlier in the same day they met because she didn’t think she was ready to tie the knot. Pat also told Howard that his therapist suggested that his children meet Amber “in stages,” so he first introduced her to them as a friend, and allowed his children to see his relationship with Amber progress. In fact, Amber said the strategy worked very well and that she and Pat’s 13-year-old son spend a good deal of time together.
