Howard asked how Gary ever joined the show, noting that he never interviewed him: “Like, why wouldn’t I interview my new producer?”

Fred said Howard hadn’t wanted to, so he interviewed Gary–and gave him a hard time, like making him wear a suit to the interview: “He had to be somebody who could take a lot of bullshit.”

Gary laughed that the interview was in August: “It was one of the hottest days ever…I was sweating through the jacket.”

Howard said he was glad: “I’m glad you’re here. I’m glad it all worked out.”
