George said all would be forgiven if Bill would just apologize for lying about not getting an invite to George’s wedding: “You had an invitation and you made up a story.”

Bill passive-aggressively ceded the point: “Alright. If you say so, George.”

Always a good sport, George laughed it off (“I’m amused by you.”), but Bill hung up before saying he was sorry.
