The Billy Joel Town Hall and Everything Else!
Howard and Robin agreed that yesterday’s Billy Joel Town Hall was one of the best shows they’ve ever done. He loved every performance, and was especially elated that Billy switched Procol Harem’s ‘Salty Dog’ out in favor of ‘Whiter Shade of Pale’, which is a cover Howard really wanted to hear.
Robin claimed that she actually overheard Billy ask Boyz II Men to open for him in Las Vegas.
EVERYTHING ELSE
* Of course, the greatest audio around right now is Clippers owner Donald Sterling admonishing his much, much, much younger girlfriend for uploading photos on Instagram of herself with black people. It’s mostly the ramblings of an old man, but Howard pointed out that racism is still very much alive in people of all ages.
* Shecky Greene was so upset by Gilbert Gottfried’s set at the Friar’s Club roast that he quit the organization, went on the radio and called Gilbert a ‘little Jew’ and said he’d like to throw him up against a wall. It’s safe to say, Howard was not in love with Shecky’s anti-semitic outburst.
* Howard was shocked that Craig Ferguson is leaving the Late Late Show, and doesn’t understand why people can’t be satisfied with what they have.
* Nobody was expecting George Clooney to announce his engagement, but Howard hung out with his girlfriend (now fiancée) over the holidays and absolutely loved her, calling her ‘worldly, brilliant, and sexy.’
* Robin watched the Oscar-winning documentary 20 Feet from Stardom and learned for the first time that Mick Jagger was singing about ‘rape’ and ‘murder’ in Gimme Shelter.
