David Crosby Tries to Squash His Feud With Neil Young

"Déjà Vu" singer apologizes on-air for calling Daryl Hannah a "poisonous predator"

It's no secret that Crosby Stills Nash & (sometimes) Young are one of Howard's favorite bands of all time. All the bandmembers have been in studio for in an interview, but David only appeared on the show once, in the 1980s, as a 'mystery guest'. The time for a proper, longform interview with the rock legend was long overdue.

Thankfully, neither he nor Howard disappointed this morning. They covered David whole career from his early days, to The Byrds, to CSNY.

Howard told David Crosby that when Neil Young was on the Stern Show back in October, he was still distressed over comments Crosby made about Neil's then-new girlfriend Daryl Hannah, calling her a "poisonous predator" in an interview with the Idaho Statesman.

"I'll tell you the truth about that … I screwed up. I shot my mouth off when I shouldn't have," Crosby admitted.

"I shouldn't have done it and here's the real reason why: I'm a screw-up. I have screwed up massively. Daryl Hannah never wound up at a Texas prison. I'm screwed up way worse than that girl. Where do I get off criticizing her?" he continued.

Rumors swirled back in November after a war of words erupted with Young announcing that CSNY would never tour together again. Graham Nash disagreed on the Ron & Fez show, telling them that Neil was "just a little upset" at the time of those comments.

Still, as the media speculated about Daryl Hannah's involvement, both Crosby and Young were more or less mum on the specifics until the silence was broken Monday morning with Howard.

"I love Neil and I want him happy … I apologize Daryl. If you're out there – I had no right, I have nowhere to stand to look down and criticize you. I apologize. I should not have done that. It was completely of line," Crosby conceded.

So ultimately, could we see one more CSNY tour ever again? Depends on who you ask.

Aside from his CSNY bandmates, David had another musical love affair (and a sexual one too) with legendary singer-songwriter Joni Mitchell. In fact, Graham Nash heard David and their future bandmate Stephen Stills singing at Joni's house one night and he started singing along. There changed their lives.

Listen to David talk about how wonderful Joni was and describe the moment he knew he wanted Neil Young to join his band.

David managed to make music with Stills, Nash and Young and make love with Joni Mitchell, but he made actual children with Melissa Etheridge.

When Melissa was on the show recently, she spoke proudly about choosing David to be the biological father of her two children. David seemed quite proud of it too and went into further detail about how it all came to be.

And just like that, David Crosby completed the CSNY interview puzzle.
