Howard Stern Remembers MAD Magazine Artist Jack Davis: ‘One of the Greatest Artists Ever’
Celebrated illustrator drew famous cover of the King of All Media getting plunged out of a toilet
Jack Davis, the acclaimed MAD Magazine illustrator who drew Howard Stern’s cover in 1995, has died. The 91-year-old artist, who also did cover work for magazines like Time and TV Guide, passed away due to complications from a stroke, according to the New York Times.
On Wednesday morning, Howard recalled how much he admired Davis while growing up.
“I think he was one of the greatest artists ever,” Howard said. “I worshiped the guy when I was a kid.”
MAD Magazine penned a tribute to Mr. Davis and noted that his final MAD cover, which depicted “Howard Stern being plunged into a toilet bowl by Alfred E. Neuman, is beloved by Stern and remains a MAD classic.”
